Rose Stein International Elementary is a community of inquirers empowered to embrace curiosity, collaboration and diverse perspectives. Our journey leads us as global citizens to create a better world.
History
Stein Elementary School opened in 1954 as North Alameda Elementary School. The original architect of the building was Temple Buell. Additions were constructed in 1963 and 1995 that doubled the size of the original building. For many years, Stein was the only school in Jeffco with a bilingual program.
In 2015, Stein underwent major renovations. The cost to renovate was $3.4 million and includes new windows and doors, new LED lighting throughout the building, new heating and cooling units, new playgrounds, classroom and office furniture, paint, carpet and more.
After being closed for two years, construction was completed and Rose Stein International Elementary re-opened to students in 2017 as an International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate school.
During the renovations, the preschool program was moved from the cottage buildings at Reed Street and Ellsworth Avenue and relocated to the main building with all the other kindergarten through sixth graders, creating an inclusive welcoming environment for all families PreK through sixth grade. The Stein Kids Clinic, which was previously located in a temporary building on the Stein site, was moved to the main building and is now known as the Stride Clinic.
In January 2020, Rose Stein received authorization from the International Baccalaureate after a three-year application process to be a Primary Years Programme (PYP) school. Students who attend Rose Stein and continue to Alameda Junior and Senior High School have the opportunity to participate in a PreK-12th grade IB continuum.
